On April 10th 1926 was the grand opening of the Lk. Monroe Inn on beautiful alligator infested Lk. Monroe, which is just a wide spot in the St. Johns river; the only river in the northern hemisphere that flows north. Thru the years the speakeasy also known as The Dew Drop Inn was visited by many colorful characters, Al Capone, the Kennedys, John Whitman, Jimmy Buffet ,David Drysdale, and Capt. Dale Gustafson to mention just a few. Between 1900 and 1960 the area known as Monroe, produced 30 % of the worlds celery. It had one of the busiest railroads in the south Monroe Station ", and the second largest ice plants in the U.S. On the west end of the lake was the T.E.Wilson Wharf which brought tourist and supplies in from Jacksonville by steamboat. In the time Monroe and Sanford were quite the towns to be visited either on your way south to Tampa or Key West or north to Jacksonville or beyond. After the opening of the big "D"...aka Disney, in the early 70"s things in central Florida really changed up...and the rest has yet to be written. It is also known as Jonny Rotton's Bar Out Back!!! The BIGGEST and most well known biker bar in central florida. Where everybody is somebody... So come by and enjoy the scenic view, fish jumping, eagles flying over head, people fishing, and the" Rivership Romance" cruising by. A real piece of paradise. Thanks for your many years of support from Jonny Rotton and his family and staff...God Bless America
